I love eating breakfast. It provides the fuel and energy to get us through the first few hours of a new day. And considering that I've been living in Citrus Heights ever since early-2016 and I still haven't eaten here? Truth be told is that the "Lodge Coffee Shop" is a real hidden gem. It's one of those no-frills, family owned and operated restaurants where locals go to enjoy a homemade quality breakfast.

I've actually passed by this place on numerous occasions. But it wasn't until I saw news anchor Tina Macuha of the show Good Day Sacramento pay a visit to this place (in August 2019) on her segment, "Dishin' With Tina". As far as the business itself, they are located on Auburn Blvd. just south of Twin Oaks Blvd. and only about a 1/2 mile away from the I-80 freeway. Parking was fairly simple to find since there aren't many businesses surrounding The Lodge.

Once inside, you get that feeling as if you've stepped into a time warp to the past several decades. And when I say that, the interior is very reminiscent of an actual ski lodge. Everything from the steep roof, exposed wooden beams, high ceilings, and kitschy décor. Additionally, you will find a giant aquarium housed in some nice flagstones at the rear of the business which adds a very tranquil feeling to this place. Since the whole trim is a dark brown, it has a very dark feeling inside but in a very cozy log cabin type of way.

Now onto the food! I ended up ordering their "Mini Breakfast" (for $7.95 as of Sept. 2019). I ended up choosing one slice of bacon, one sausage link, one egg (cooked over easy), home-fried potatoes, and one slice of sourdough toast. She orders the same "Mini Breakfast" but she chose all bacon, hash browns, and white toast. We were given two cups of their house coffee and two iced waters.

Right off the bat, their house coffee was delicious! Maybe that's why they kept the word "coffee" in the business name. As far as our breakfast entrees, everything was cooked to perfection. The bacon and sausage tasted the way my mom used to make them off the frying pan. And my potatoes were seasoned very well. I tried some of her hash browns and man, this was delish! Crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. For a simple breakfast meal, this place hit the spot.

Keep in mind that "The Lodge Coffee Shop" has very limited hours of operation being only open from 6am-2pm, 7 days a week. Overall, the quality of the food, exceptional service, and inexpensive prices makes this an excellent choice. And if breakfast isn't your thing, they also offer a very generous lunch menu (served after 10:30am) offering a nice selection of sandwiches and burgers. My rating for the "Lodge Coffee Shop" in Citrus Heights, a perfect five-stars!

first impressions- this is truly a local greasy spoon. workers and patrons all seem to know each other...like Cheers in Boston but with food. wait staff was friendly and made you feel at home.  The decor makes me feel like i was in some time warp.  Btw - the restrooms are attached to the building, but you need a key along with a stroll outside to the back of the restroom-classic.

ok, ok, enough about the decor how was the food? We ordered their 1) corned beef hash plate - hash was from a can but the eggs were cooked to what our friend had requested. The sourdough toast and muffins were eh, and arrived 5 -10 minutes before our entrees- weird. 2) bacon cheese burger- our friend would give it a 6 out of 10.  he is a connoisseur of burgers - so it was just average for him. 3) lodge breakfast- 1 egg, 2 pieces of bacon and one pancake - the bacon was not your think cut version, but just a basic slice of bacon- the pancake was fine though. 4) lodge potatoe platter-mixed breakfast meats, 2 eggs,  cheese, and country gravy over potatoes (but i substituted the potatoes with hash browns) - actually tasted good. would order again. The coffee is...well...bring your own.

    Great little local Breakfast place
    Small and homey
Staff is super nice and the food was great
I only felt out of place because all the locals were there
Maybe need to come more often since I've lived in CH for 30 years
    A must try if you've haven't already

So I thought I would give this place another try. I wanted to come back and see if their chicken fried steak was consistent. I was a little disappointed today, as I did not think it was as good as the first time. The potatoes were slightly undercooked, which wasn't a big deal because it wasn't like they were crunchy... The eggs were cooked perfectly and the biscuit was delicious

Are you looking for a great breakfast or lunch in Citrus Heights?  Do you like to enjoy your meal in a rustic, "old school," ski lodge-like dining room?  If that's what you're looking for, head over Lodge Coffee Shop, and enjoy a delicious breakfast or lunch, served by friendly staff.

My visit actually happened a couple of weeks ago and I'm just getting around to posting it on Yelp.

Lodge Coffee Shop is appropriately named, as the building is constructed like a ski lodge, complete with a very steep-pitched roof, to ward of the snow that Citrus Heights almost never gets.  If you transported the building to Lake Tahoe, it would fit right in, but in the Sacramento Valley, The building is a bit of an oddity, which makes for a rather eye-catching appearance.  Inside, the decor is that of a ski lodge, as the dining room features rustic knotty pine paneling, exposed beams, flagstone, a very high ceiling, and is "old school" in every way.  There is one oddity that you won't find at many Tahoe area ski lodges, as in the rear of the compact dining room there is an aquarium, filled with rather large, colorful goldfish. I must say that Lodge's decor is very attractive.

I scanned the menu and had planned to order a burger and fries, but when I saw the "Lunch Special" board, I went for Fish and Chips, as that's one of my favorite things to eat.

My order of fish and chips arrived steaming HOT from the kitchen, along with a nice large bowl of tarter sauce.  The chips were so good they didn't need ketchup, but I used it anyway, as ketchup brings out the kid in me when I eat chips.

The single large piece of fish was breaded, and perfectly deep fried.  The batter was golden and crunchy, and the fish was moist and tender inside.  The fish was fried perfectly and wasn't salty or greasy.  Delicious.

The chips were thick cut steak fries, which I must admit, are my favorite kind of fries.  Like the fish, they were fried perfectly, and weren't salty or greasy.  Perfect!  Such a great lunch at Lodge Coffee Shop!

If you love "old school" diners, which serve breakfast and lunch, with a lot of "home town" atmosphere, along with amazing food, you'll love Lodge Coffee Shop.  I love everything about this fine restaurant, and they rightly have earned their five star review from this "foodie."
